Former Rep. Ed Case (D-HI) Enters U.S. Senate Race by Gregory Hilton

Former Rep. Ed Case (D-HI) announced his Senate candidacy today and is now the frontrunner. Hawaii is a tough state for the GOP, and it is interesting to see the liberal reaction. They really hate Case, so he must have done something right!
AOL co-founder Steve Case is his cousin. Case supported the Iraq war, says retiring Sen. Daniel Akaka (D) is too liberal and wants more fiscal conservatives in the Democratic party.
A decade ago Case told Democrats, “If you cannot make those tough budget choices, please get out of the way, because you are just making it harder for the rest of us.”
He was a Blue Dog Democrat for eight years in the House, and labor is certain to oppose him. I want Republicans to win, but former Gov. Linda Lingle (R) has a high negative rating, is not doing well in the polls, and is not expected to run. There is only one Republican in the Hawaii State Senate.
Former Lt. Gov. Duke Aiona and former Rep. Charles Djou are potential GOP candidates, but Case has a message his party needs to hear, and Democrats are headed for a divisive primary.
