It was revealed today that the Chairman of the DC City Council violated regulations when he signed a one year lease for a Lincoln Navigator at over $2000/month. The Chairman rejected the first Lincoln because he did not like the color of its interior, and now the city is stuck paying for two leases. The violation was because the Lincoln receives less than 22 mpg, not because it was too expensive.
The taxpayers might appreciate policies in other countries. The official presidential vehicle in Chile is a black Ford Galaxie. When it was new in 1966 the price of this car was almost the same as the monthly lease of the Navigator.
The Galaxie now has over 360,000 miles and the President uses another vehicle for daily travel. The president of Slovenia drives a Prius. The official state cars in Ireland and Denmark are a 1947 and a 1958 Rolls-Royce.
