Two Political Predictions by Gregory Hilton

First, Gov. Howard Dean (D-VT), the immediate past Chairman of the Democratic Party, will challenge President Obama for the nomination in 2012. Dean is continuing to emphasize his disagreements with the administration and was not pleased when he was passed over for a Cabinet slot. Dean is smart and he is an excellent public speaker. He has consistently been opposing Obama from the left, especially on health care. A surprise is that Dean is against the 9/11 Mosque and says: “I think some of my own folks at my end of the spectrum of the party are demonizing some fairly decent people who are opposed to this. In no way am I defending the right-wing of the Republican Party. 65% of the people are not right-wing bigots. Some of them really have deep emotional feelings about this.” Continue reading

Washington State Tea Party: We Have the Power to Destroy the GOP by Gregory Hilton

Libertarian isolationists have cost the GOP three seats in the U.S. Senate, and this year they want to increase that number to four. According to the survey data, Republicans have an excellent chance of defeating liberal Sen. Patty Murray (WA). If Murray is re-elected she is hoping to become the Senate Democratic Whip in the next Congress. On Tuesday, President Obama visited Seattle on her behalf and later that night she was renominated for a fourth term. All the polls are close, and in a bad sign for the incumbent, she was held under the half way mark on Tuesday when she received 46% of the vote.
Murray received 46% of the vote but the combined GOP total was 49%. This is the first time in many years that the Republicans have led in the so-called “jungle primary” (all candidates from both parties on one ballot). This could be one of the best Republican pick up opportunities of this election cycle, but Libertarians once again want to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Their threat should not be ignored and they have already inflicted serious damage in Washington State.
In 2000, Senator Slade Gorton (R-WA) was defeated by 2,229 votes, while a Libertarian candidate received 64,734 votes. In 2004, Republican Dino Rossi lost the governorship by 129 votes while a Libertarian received 63,500 votes. On Tuesday it was the same Dino Rossi who received the GOP Senate nomination.
Former NFL tight end Clint Didier was supported by Ron Paul and Sarah Palin, and received 12 percent of the primary vote. Didier claims to be a anti-government “solid conservative,” but accepted $275,000 in federal farm subsidies to do nothing with his land. Didier claims to support our troops, but is totally against their mission. He wants the United States to pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan, and he believes America should give up its veto power in the UN Security Council.
Didier says the Republican Party is “a large part of the problem with the economic turmoil we face today.” While they strongly disagreed on foreign policy, Rossi and Didier were in agreement on most domestic issues. Didier said Rossi: “is part of the Republican establishment – all you have to do is look at those he surrounds himself with. I don’t believe he’s the conservative people think he is. If people want more of the same, the McCain or Bush type of governing, then they can support Dino.”
Radphord-Leon Howard, 68, of West Richland, Washington is was one of Didier’s biggest boosters. Howard is a self described “Goldwater Libertarian,” and is Coordinator of the TriCities Tea Party, and can not be ignored because libertarians and tea party members composed one third of the delegates to the Republican state convention. During the primary he repeatedly said “We need to destroy Rossi.”
Howard also wants to destroy neo-conservatives whu support the U.S. missions in Iraq and Afghanistan and believes:

Rossi against Patty Murray is a win for the “Party Bosses” on both sides of the aisle. Rossi is a has-been: No matter how it happened, he lost both elections against Gregoire (that makes him a “loser” not a “winner”). Rossi is a political hack and will do whatever the party wants. He cares nothing about what the people want! Rossi isn’t committed to anything but himself and his political future. The D.C. “party bosses” don’t like Clint Didier because he was endorsed by Ron Paul and Sarah Palin . . . that scares the neo-cons! Rossi is what the “establishment GOP” wants and sending Rossi to D.C. is the same as re-electing Murray.

Howard was furious when Rossi told the GOP state convention that he will not agree to pull America out of the United Nations, and he was thrilled when Didier repeated the John Birch Society motto, “We need to get the U.S. out of the U.N. and get the U.N. out of the U.S.! Some say we need to stay engaged because of our ‘veto’ vote, I ask why!?”
Now Howard and his ally Ross Burton of Kennewick want Didier to run as a write-in campaign for Didier in the general election. They know Didier can not win, but that is not their goal. They want Senator Murray to be re-elected. Burton says “We have the power to destroy the Republican party. We have to show them we are willing to do it or they won’t get the message.” In a message to Tea Party members today, Howard said:

Those of us who endorsed and campaigned for Clint Didier and Paul Akers, did so for many reasons but the biggest reason for me is because Dino Rossi is a RINO! It looks as though the GOP Party Bosses are still in charge and they would rather send a “business as usual” political hack to D.C., so the corruption will continue. Washington state voters will have the choice of a Patty Murray in Tennis Shoes or a Patty Murray in Wing Tips! For myself, I no longer vote “for the lesser of two evils” because evil still wins. I choose to vote for a person of principle; a person who speaks with passion; a man who will not back down when he is right; a man who will not be intimidated! I will write-in Clint Didier on November 2nd! I invite you to join me because it matters not which Patty Murray goes to D.C.; neither of them represent me, my family, my state, or my nation.

Even Liberals Are Making Fun of the Recovery Summer

Even liberals are now making fun of the $862 billion in stimulus spending. The link below is to a contest being conducted by the left wing Huffngton Post. They “asked HuffPost readers to come up with a more appropriate name for the last few months, which the Obama administration rather hopefully dubbed ‘The Recovery Summer.'” They did not pick the best choice which was Bummer Summer.
Vice President Joe Biden first spoke of a Recovery Summer last April and said the stimulus would spur the economy by adding half-million jobs every month. The reality is that initial unemployment claims jumped a half-million last week, the worst since last November. The President says unemployment is increasing because the Congress will not pass his jobs bill for small business. Someone needs to tell Obama that Democrats have controlled the Congress since 2007.

Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) Was Defeated The Day Obama Was Elected by Gregory Hilton

Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) has been running behind in her re-election campaign all year. No one expects her to be re-elected, but in a poll out today she is losing by an astronomical 65% to 27% margin. Lincoln has not committed any crime and she is not among the top Senate liberals. She has not made any serious errors, but organized labor and liberal activist groups spent over $10 million on a primary campaign to defeat her.
The message from Arkansas is that Blanche Lincoln was defeated on the day Barack Obama was elected. The President is radioactive in Arkansas and his approval rating is now at a dismal 31%. The GOP now has one Congressional seat but they are expected to capture 75% of the House delegation in November. Sen. Mark Pryor (D-AR) is more liberal than Lincoln and he is very pleased that he does not have to face the electorate until 2014.
Lincoln inflicted a major wound on herself the day she became the deciding vote on ObamaCare. If she voted no, it meant risking defeat in a primary, but by voting yes she sealed her doom in the general election. Prior to the health care vote she was considered a competent centrist. Once she voted for ObamaCare the tide turned swiftly and devastatingly against her.

Israel Continues to Lose Support From Liberal Democrats by Gregory Hilton

Liberals are continuing to abandon the Jewish State, acccording to a new Israel Project survey which appeared in the Jerusalem newspaper, Haaretz. The results were analyzed by Adam Horowitz, a founding member of Jews Against the Occupation. He covers the Middle East full time from “a progressive Jewish perspective.” Horowitz says “The section of the American public where Israel is most rapidly losing support is among liberals who align themselves with the Democratic Party.”
The news was cheered on the website Open Left which today says “Collectively, news about the continuing ethnic cleansing and colonization of Palestinian lands, and the inhumane Gaza siege is taking its toll on liberal Democratic support of Israel under the right wing Likud party.”
The poll asked “Does the U.S. need to support Israel?” In August of 2009, 63% of Americans polled said that the U.S. does need to support Israel. In June of this year, 58% of respondents shared the same view; by July only 51% of respondents said the U.S. needed to support Israel.
Another question posed by the pole was “Is the Israeli government committed to peace with the Palestinians?” In December of 2007, 66% of respondents said that the government, then led by Ehud Olmert, was committed to peace with the Palestinians. In June of 2009, a month after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the White House, only 46% of Americans said they believed the Netanyahu government was committed to peace.
According to the liberal publication Slate, “various polls document the liberal disenchantment.” The Gallup Poll reports that 80 percent of Republicans have a favorable view of Israel, compared with only 53 percent of Democrats. The Zogby numbers are even worse. They found 42% of Democrats had a favorable rating of Israel compared to 92% of Republicans resulting in a 50% gap between the parties.
Only 54 percent of Jews under 35 who aren’t Orthodox are “comfortable with the idea of a Jewish state” (as compared to more than 80 percent of those over 65). Among younger Jews, only 20 percent rated as “highly attached” to Israel in another poll.
Slate says “It’s hard to see this as good news for either Israel or Democrats. . . Obama won nearly 80 percent of the Jewish vote in 2008. I doubt he will get as much of it in 2012.”
Other Observations About Jews
Helping the down and out, and doing charitable acts, is an essential part of being a Jew. They consider this a Mitzvah. That is perhaps why liberalism was, and is attractive to Jews. However, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said “Israel’s worst enemies are not Arabs or Palestinians, but liberal American Jews.” Other surveys have demonstrated that some 30% of Jews do not support Israel, find the concept of “Israel” an anachronism, and find Judism a “tradition.” There are religious Jews who say there will be no Israel until established by the Messiah.
On a related topic, it is often falsely claimed that the Jews killed Jesus. This comes from the New Testament which was written by Jewish men who had become Christians. They wrote of ‘The Jews’ in a negative way. The Christian Church has been quite clear about this. We killed Jesus – all of us – through our sins. Jesus died in order to redeem us from our sins. He died for us. If we were not sinners he would not have needed to die. Therefore, we collectively killed Jesus – not any one group of people.

90th Anniversary: Women Gain The Right To Vote by Gregory Hilton

It was 90 years ago today that the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified and women gained the right to vote. On August 18, 1920, Tennessee became the 36th state to ratify the amendment which says:
The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
Women waited a long time for the right to vote, and Congress defeated several attempts to give them that power.
Women were crucial to industry during World War I, and President Woodrow Wilson defined the conflict as a war to save democracy. American women wanted to know why they were not part of that democracy.
In 1917 they began picketing the White House on a daily basis. Many of them were arrested, convicted and incarcerated at the Lorton Correctional Complex in northern Virginia. They were beaten by prison gardens and participated in a hunger strike.
In 1918 women waged vigorous campaigns to make sure the 19th amendment would be a major issue, and they had a substantial impact. Congress reversed course and passed the 19th amendment in early 1919.
It has often been noted that there is a significant gender gap in voting patterns. Republicans would have swept every presidential election since 1968 if the vote had been restricted to men.

Matt Mead (R) Will Be Next Governor of Wyoming

Matt Mead and his wife Carol are shown arriving to vote

Former U.S. Attorney Matt Mead spent $1.1 million on yesterday’s Republican gubernatorial primary, and $900,000 of it was his own money. His investment has paid off and he will be the next Governor of Wyoming. Continue reading

Wyoming Primary Today: A GOP State That Elects Democratic Governors by Gregory Hilton

Wyoming is a very Republican state which almost always elects Democratic Governors because of infighting. This year two term Gov. Dave Freudenthal (D) is stepping down, and on paper the GOP has a huge advantage in the general election. There are 157,000 registered Republicans compared to about 65,000 Democrats. The state is solidly Republican on the presidential level and the GOP completely controls its Congressional delegation. Continue reading

Stunning New Poll: Get Ready for House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) by Gregory Hilton

The nation’s most prominent liberal blogger, Matthew Yglesias of The Atlantic Monthly, has just reprinted this chart from the Gallup Poll demonstrating that the GOP has a huge seven percent lead in the 2010 generic ballot between Republicans and Democrats. His only comment was, “This means House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH)”. Yglesias reaction is not an exaggeration. This is the biggest generic ballot lead for the Republican Party in history. First Lady’s Popularity Declines: Is It Right to Ridicule Her Appearance? by Gregory Hilton

First Lady Michelle Obama has received considerable criticism because of this photo. Critics claim it shows Mrs. Obama arriving at the Marivent Palace, the royal summer residence in Mallorca, on August 8th. The photo is a fake. The steps are of the Royal Palace in Madrid and it was taken on April 27th during the visit of French First Lady Carla Bruni Sarkozy, center. On the left is HRH Crown Princess Letizia of Spain. I am certainly an opponent of President Obama, and the First Lady's vacation in Spain was not wise. However, Mrs. Obama is an attractive and well educated woman and many of her activities as First Lady are admirable.

The popularity of First Lady Michelle Obama has declined from 64% in April of 2009 to just 50% last week, according to the NBC News survey. While her husband was unpopular, former First Lady Laura Bush left the White House with a 76% approval rating. Michelle Obama’s recent vacation in Spain was a target of criticism for those who responded to the survey. The First Lady used her own money to pay for a $2,500/night hotel room, but her air fare cost the government $375,000. Every First Lady is subjected to intense scrutiny. Continue reading
