Libertarian Party Targets GOP Incumbents by Gregory Hilton

Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) can thank the Libertarian Party for his margin of victory. The Libertarians also defeated GOP Senators in Oregon and Washington (Gordon Smith and Slate Gorton), and they cost Republicans the gubernatorial race in Washington. Now they have announced their 2010 Liberty Slate and they want to defeat the following GOP lawmakers: Sen. Bob Bennett (UT), and Reps. Tom Cole (OK), Lamar Smith (TX), Michael McCaul (TX), Mark Souder (IN), Mike Simpson (ID), Spencer Bachus (AL), Chris Smith (NJ) and Jim Gerlach (PA).
All of these incumbents are outstanding, and most of them are solid conservatives. Why does the Libertarian Party want to defeat them? Because Libertarians are isolationists and they want to dismantle vital national security programs. Their goal is “reduced foreign wars” and they want to accomplish that by defeating Republicans, even though there is little difference between the Bush and Obama positions on Afghanistan and Iraq.
In announcing the hit list, the Liberty Slate leader said: “I am proud to say I never voted for George W. Bush. I sensed he was lying from the beginning and my conscience would not permit me to vote for an individual who did not share my basic beliefs about the role of government.”
These radical Libertarians want to abolish the CIA, the Department of Homeland Security, FEMA, the Patriot Act, FISA, and they want an end to the special relationship between America and Israel. They want us to leave the terrorists alone, and keeping the sea lanes open “should be someone else’s responsibility.” If you want more Al Franken’s on Capitol Hill, then the Libertarian Party is right for you.
